Gaels are 3-1 winners over Toronto

| By:

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 22, 2013) - The Gaels scored two goals with the wind at their backs in the first half against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and put the game out of reach with another late tally on Saturday at the West Campus Turf Field.

The Gaels utilized the long ball to their advantage in the first half, when Oliver Coren (Toronto) found a streaking William Twardek (Ottawa), who beat Toronto goalkeeper Kenneth Viegas in the 31st minute with a shot to the near post. Chris Michael (Ottawa) and Kristian Zanette (Thunder Bay, Ont.) hooked up on a similar play, as Michael got on the end of Zanette's free kick, sneaking the ball past Viegas and in as the first half expired.

Lucas Azeredo Lobo (Kingston, Ont.) netted an insurance goal in the second half, heading in a cross from Zanette.

Killian Elkinson got one back for the Varsity Blues, but Gaels' keeper Dylan Maxwell (Vancouver) saved Toronto's other six attempts.

The Gaels (3-2-1) play at RMC (1-4-1) on Wednesday at 3pm, and are back at the West Campus Turf Field on Saturday for their 3:15pm match against the Trent Excalibur (0-6-0).
