Caitie Ryan comes up big in second half as Gaels topple Trent 36-5

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (September 20, 2013) - A two-try performance by veteran winger Caitie Ryan (Kamloops, B.C.) led the No. 3-ranked Queen's Gaels to a 36-5 win over Trent in OUA women's rugby action in Peterborough on Friday.

Miranda Seifert (Regina, Sask.) scored the first try for the Gaels, while Trent's Theresa Gwynne Carlos put the first points on the board for Trent. The score at the half was 5-5 with the Gaels unable to penetrate Trent's back lines.

The second half saw a surge of momentum from the Gaels with Kayla Roote (Peterborough, Ont.), Maddie Monaghan (Manotick, Ont.), and Karley Heyman (Harrowsmith, Ont.) scoring tries for the Gaels as they were able to pull ahead of the Excalibur team.

Ryan scored two tries for the Gaels in the second half while Bronwyn Corrigan (Waterloo,Ont.) kicked a successful conversion and Emily Martin (Courtice, Ont.) made two conversions of her own.

The Gaels (3-0) return to action on Saturday, September 28, where they play U of T Varsity Blues at Nixon Field in Kingston.
