Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) scored on the power play with 36 seconds remaining in the third to give the No. 3 Gaels a 3-2 win over Toronto on Saturday afternoon.
With the win Queen's now improves to 7-0-3 on the season for top spot in the OUA. Queen's has yet to lose a game in regulation this season.
McHaffie finished with a two point day for Queen's while
Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) stopped 14 of 16 shots for the win.
After Taylor Day put the Varsity Blues up 1-0 early in the first period the Gaels quickly responed with a goal from
Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) who has now scored a goal in four straight games.
In the second period
Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) scored her fifth goal of the season to give the Gaels a one goal advantage heading into the final frame.Â
Toronto used their power play to even the score at 2-2 on a goal from Stacey Oue at 9:15. Dodd-Moher held Toronto at bay and after a Varsity Blue penalty McHaffie sealed the win for Queen's on the power play in the final minute of the third.
The Gaels are back in action tomorrow when they host the Ryerson Rams at 3pm at the Memorial Centre.
