BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (November 2, 2013) - The Queen's men's basketball team was relentless from the tip-off with a commanding victory 88-64 over the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday night, in Kingston Ontario.
The Gaels got off to an early lead against the Gryphons, leading an astounding 24-2 at the end of the first quarter. At the half,
Roshane Roberts (Vaughan, Ont.) and
Greg Faulkner (Kingston, Ont.) were the main offensive contributors helping the Gaels to a 51-20 lead.
The third quarter went much like the first two. A dunk by Faulker early in third took their lead to 61-21. After that, the game started to get a bit sloppy with Guelph trying to climb back and the Gaels trying to maintain focus. Guelph started to rally back in the fourth outscoring the Gaels 25-17. Trevor Thompson and Zachary Angus of Guelph led the Gryphons offensively in the fourth, but they were unable to hold back the Gaels who went 8 of 17 from behind the arc and shot 47% from the floor for the game.
Faulkner recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Roberts finished with 11 points and
Mackenzie Simpson (Ottawa) added 10 points and eight rebounds. This is the second win for the Gaels this weekend, giving them a regular season record of 2-0.
The men take on the Western Mustangs next Friday at 8pm in their first road game of the season.
