Gaels use big third quarter to win 60-43 over Warriors

| By:
BOX SCORE WATERLOO, Ont. (November 16, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels (3-3) snap their losing streak by defeating the Waterloo Warriors (2-3) 60-43 on Saturday night.

The Gaels were off to a very slow start, being outscored in the first quarter 19-8 and heading into the break trailing 32-23. Shots were not falling for Queen's as they shot only 19% from the field in the first half. Despite missing shots, the Gaels tightened the gap going into half time by attacking the rim and making nine of 10 free-throw attempts.

The second half saw a completely different Gaels squad. The girls exploded to a 27-6 point differential in their favour in the third quarter, and from then on they did not look back. Queen's increased defensive tenacity caused 24 Waterloo turnovers to their 12 on the game.

Second year Gael Robyn Pearson (Toronto) was the stand out player of the night capturing a massive double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Gemma Bullard added 14 points and Jenny Wright tallied 10 points and nine boards in the contest. Waterloo's Marti Killeen led her team with 13 points and 11 boards.

The Queen's women host McMaster University at the ARC next Friday, November 22nd at 6pm.
