BOX SCORE LONDON, Ont. (November 16, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels fell 2-1 in overtime to the No. 10 Western Mustangs but have yet to lose in regulation this season and sit at 6-0-5 as the only OUA team without a loss in regulation.
After Daniel Erlich opened the scoring for Western on the power play in the first the Gaels came back with some special teams work of their own.
Kelly Jackson (Toronto) scored a shorthanded marker at 18:09 of the second period to tie the game at 1-1.
Both goalies were tested often with
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) stopping 25 shots on the night and Western's Josh Unive deflecting 28 aside. Their work forced the game past the regular 60 minutes and into overtime.
A hard fought game had a strange ending in overtime however, with the puck settled in front of Bailie there was some confusion and Matt Clarke was able to get enough on the puck and it slowly slipped past the goal line to end the game and give Western the win.
Queen's is currently tied for 1st place in the OUA East as they have 17 points, equal to McGill. Up next for the Gaels they host the Windsor Lancers on Friday night at 7:30pm at the Memorial Centre in Kingston.
