BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (November 1, 2013) - The women's basketball team came out with defensive tenacity on Friday night in their season and home opener, defeating Lakehead 58-52. The Gaels played a consistent forty minutes, weathering the comeback attempts by the visiting Thunderwolves.

Both teams are known for their three point shooting abilities but they both could not find their groove in the first game of the 2013-2014 season. Last season, Lakehead led the OUA in three pointers made, but went 3 for 17 on the night with Kelsey Bardsley contributing two. Queen's shot 4-18 from behind the arc with
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) hitting two of five attempts. The fourth year vet led the team in scoring with 14 points, followed by rookie
Abby Dixon (North Vancouver, B.C.) contributing 12 and second year
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) adding 10. Katie Ulakovic of Lakehead led her team with 15 points going 5-12 from the floor.

The lead gap increased to as much as 12 points in the second, and to as close as five in the third, but the Gaels held on by continuing to convert on Lakehead turnovers.

First year
Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) started in her first regular season game as a Gael, contributing 12 of the teams total 42 rebounds. Her aggressive presence on the court helped lead the Queen's team to their now 1-0 record.
