Gaels will play for bronze after losing in Penalty Kicks to No. 1 Western

LONDON (November 1, 2013)- The women's soccer Gaels fell in penalty kicks to the No. 1 Western Mustangs after playing through regulation and overtime tied 0-0 in their OUA Final Four semifinal.

Western triumphed in the penalty shootout 3-2, while Micah Vermeer (Grimsby, Ont.) and Alexis McKinty (Burlington, Ont.) converted their penalties in the Gaels losing effort. Tori Edgar, Becca Jefferson, and Jenna White gave the Mustangs the win.

Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) stood tall for the Gaels through all 120 minutes of play, stopping all eight of the Mustangs' shots. Edgar got the call in goal for Western, making seven saves plus saving two of the Gaels penalty kicks in the win.

The loss sends the Gaels to the bronze-medal game on Sunday at 11am against the Carleton Ravens, while Western and Laurier both earn spots in the CIS Championship and will battle it out for the OUA title at 2pm.
