BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (November 1, 2013) - The Queen's men's basketball team defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 84-64 in the season and home opener at the ARC Friday night in Kingston.

The Gaels were fired up and ready for battle right from tip-off, feeding off of the energy from the loud home crowd. Nikola Misljencevic's (Ottawa) two first half threes, as well as Andrew Mavety's (Vancouver) back-to-back threes early in the second, helped the Gaels to a lead of 42-27 heading into half time.

The Gaels kept up with their offensive precision in the second half, shooting an impressive 58% from the floor and 44% from beyond the arc for the game. Queen's led by as much as 25 points in the contest, but as little as nine points early in the fourth.

The men were able to hold off Lakehead's final push led by Igor Lebov who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds and Dwayne Harvey who collected five steals along with his 10 points. Roshane Roberts (Vaughan, Ont.) and Misljencevic both finished with 16 points, followed by Mackenzie Simpson (Ottawa) tallying 14 points of his own.

The home opener saw a great crowd including many Queen's students living in residence for the second of four "Rez Nights" and many members of the local Kingston Impact basketball team. To help in creating such a great atmosphere for the evening, there were in-game performances by the Queen's Dance Team and the Queen's Band's who helped lead the crowd in cheering on the Gaels.

The Gaels are back to the Saturday night at 8pm to take on the Guelph Gryphons.
