Gaels drop home opener 2-1 in overtime to UOIT

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (October 4, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels could not hold on to an early 1-0 lead and UOIT managed to tie the game before going on to win in overtime.

Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) scored the lone goal for the Gaels on the power play in the first period. Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) and Courtenay Jacklin (Regina, Sask.) added the assists. Queen's outshot UOIT 13-3 in the first frame but could only muster the lone goal.

The Ridgebacks tied the game at 1-1 in the second on a goal from Samantha Forcielli on the power play, picking up their momentum and outshooting Queen's 20-16 in the final two periods. In overtime it was Melissa Berney with the winner for UOIT.

Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) made 24 saves in a losing effort for Queen's.

Next up for the Gaels is a game against Nipissing at the Memorial Centre next Friday at 7:30pm.
