BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (October 26, 2013) - The No. 5 Queen's Gaels fell in a shootout 3-2 to the York Lions on Friday night in OUA women's hockey action at the Memorial Centre in Kingston.

Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) finished with one assist to extend her point streak to four games and Caitlyn Lahonen (Sharon, Ont.) stopped 31 shots in a losing effort. York was led by Mariah Krancevich who netted a goal and a shootout goal.

In the first period the Lions Kristen Barbara scored her third goal of the season at 14:10 to put York ahead 1-0. Gaels rookie netminder Lahonen was beat only once in the period and stopped nine York shots while the Lions netminder Jessalyn Bogacki held the Gaels in check.

Queen's climbed back in the second as they got their offensive attack going. McKellar and Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) worked the puck to Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) who potted her third goal of the season on the power play. Nadia Larocca (Mississauga, Ont.) then put Queen's ahead 2-1 with her second goal in as many nights. The Gaels added the only goals of the period but were still outshot by York 15-13 in the second and 25-20 in the game.

York evened the score in the third on a goal from Krancevich at 12:14 into the frame. The two teams stayed locked in a defensive battle for the rest of the third period and the next five minutes of overtime to force a shootout.

In the shootout the Lions struck twice on their first three attempts with goals from Krancevich and Andrea Joyce. The Gaels scored only one time off the stick of Pilon and York took the win.

The Gaels have yet to lose in regulation this season and sit at 5-0-2 on the year.

Queen's will return to action next weekend when they travel to Waterloo to take on the Warriors on November 2.
