Gaels go the distance to win 3-2 in their season-opener against Guelph

BOX SCORE GUELPH (October 25th, 2013)- The men's volleyball team won a five-set match against the Guelph Gryphons to open their season on the road Friday night, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 19-25, and 15-7.
 
With the match deadlocked at two sets apiece after the opening four sets, a fifth and final set was required to determine a winner. The Gaels kill percentage was an unprecedented 82% with the game on the line, earning Queen's the five-set victory.
 
Spearheading the Gaels offense was Philippe Goyer (Ottawa) with 19 kills, followed by Stephen Holmes (Ancaster, Ont.) and Aaron Nusbaum (Aurora, Ont.) with 12 kills apiece. The Gaels had a number of key defensive players as well, with Matthew Bonshor's (White Rock, B.C.) 13 digs leading the way and Jacob Glantz (St. Catherine's, Ont.) 12 digs also contributing to the Gaels success. Will Hoey (Brampton, Ont.) had five blocks for the Gaels.
 
The Gryphons were led by Patrick Strzalkowski on offense and defense, as he recorded team-highs in kills and digs with 16 and 9, respectively.
 
The Gaels (1-0) are back in action next weekend in their home-opener against RMC (0-0) at 3pm on Sunday.
