KINGSTON (October 23, 2013) - With the game tied 1-1 as time was winding down,
Kristian Zanette (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored the last-minute go-ahead goal for Queen's, giving them the 2-1 victory against the Nipissing Lakers on Wednesay at the West Campus Turf Field in OUA Playoff action.
Both teams were scoreless through the first-half, with the Gaels recording the half's sole shot.
The offense came to life in the second frame, when
Eric Koskins (Richmond Hill, Ont.) opened the scoring with a goal from the top of the 18-yard box, slotting it to the right of Lakers keeper Andrew Reddick. Ryan Mantle responded for Nipissing in the 67th minute, knocking in a cross to even the score 1-1.
As the clock neared full-time,
Kristian Zanette released a rocket that sailed over Reddick and into the top-right corner, winning the game for Queen's.
Dylan Maxwell (Vancouver, B.C.) stood tall in nets for the Gaels, making three saves in the win.
With the win, Queen's advances to the next stage of the playoffs where they faceoff against the Carleton Ravens at 2pm on Sunday. The Gaels finished six points back of the Ravens during regular season play, with Carleton topping Queen's 2-0 and 4-1 in their meetings this year.
