BOX SCORE WATERLOO, Ont. (October 12, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels took the No. 5 Waterloo Warriors to overtime but the Warriors struck in the extra frame to take the 3-2 win.
The Warriors and Gaels played two periods of scoreless hockey to start, and Gaels netminder
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) stopped 20 shots in the first two periods while Waterloo goaltender Mike Morrison stopped 24 shots from the Gaels.
In the third period the Warriors struck early as Justin Larson scored in the first minute of the period to break the deadlock. Larson added a second marker just a few minutes later to put the Warriors ahead 2-0.
The Gaels kept the pressure on and
Joseph Luongo (Concord, Ont.) was able to quickly cut the lead in half. Queen's caught a break late and
Kelly Jackson (Scarborough, Ont.) took advantage on a delayed penalty to beat Morrison and even the game up at 2-2 with less than two minutes left in the game.
In overtime Chris Chappell scored his first of the season at 2:32 to secure the win for the Warriors.
Bailie finished with 24 saves in a losing effort for the Gaels.
Up next for Queen's is their home opener on Friday of homecoming weekend as they welcome the York Lions to the Memorial Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:30PM.
