BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 4th, 2013) - The Gaels (7-6-3) speed and efficient offensive productivity proved too much for the host RMC Paladins (2-14-2) at Constantine Arena on Friday night. The Queen's men's hockey team earned their first victory of the new year 3-1.
The Gaels found the back of the net first with second-year winger
Tyler Moore (Winnipeg) scoring from a difficult angle off a chip pass from centre
Braeden Corbeth (Oakville, Ont.). The Tricolour continued the pressure late in the first, recording six of their 10 first period shots after the 10 minute mark.
The second period saw Queen's get off to a quick start, with Moore recording his second goal of the game from a
Kelly Jackson (Scarborough, Ont.) rebounded shot. The Gaels killed off six of their eight penalty minutes in the second period with
Riley Whitlock (Calgary) standing tall in net.
RMC came out with intent in the third period, firing six shots on Whitlock early in the frame. Paladins forward Eric Louis-Seize (Montreal) scored an unassisted goal at the six minute mark to give RMC some momentum. Six minutes later Gaels leading scorer Jackson answered back with a well placed wrist shot initiated by a Jordan Soquilla (Maple Ridge, B.C) pass. With the Paladins pulling their goalie with a minute left, Whitlock was put to the test, denying RMC in the final minutes. Whitlock finished with 27 saves for the win.
The Queen's Gaels men's hockey team is next in action Saturday, when they play host to the Toronto Varsity Blues. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at the Memorial Centre. This game is also part of
Gaels Community Day, which means admission is free of charge for youth.
