Gaels, Paladins set to renew hockey's oldest rivalry in 27th Carr-Harris Challenge Cup

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (January 29, 2013) – On Thursday night, the Queen's Gaels men's hockey team will look to even the score after last week's loss against the RMC Paladins as they battle in the 27th annual Carr-Harris Challenge Cup at the K-Rock Centre.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.

Last season, the Gaels earned their fifth consecutive victory in the game as they defeated RMC by a score of 4-1. Kelly Jackson (Toronto) scored twice while Jordan Mirwaldt (Winnipeg) and Tyler Moore (Winnipeg) also scored for the Gaels. Riley Whitlock (Calgary), stopped 24 shots for the win in his first Carr-Harris Cup start.

Jackson was named the game MVP for Queen's after his two-goal performance while RMC forward , Colin Maclean (Brockville, Ont.) was named RMC's game MVP.

So far this year, Queen's and RMC have met on two occasions with each team winning their respective road games. The Gaels have narrowly had the advantage over the Paladins this season, outscoring their Kingston rivals by a 4-3 margin in the two games.

All-time, Queen's leads the historic series with a 16-8-2 record in the previous 26 games.

The Carr-Harris Cup series, originally billed as the Causeway Challenge, was inaugurated in 1986 as part of the Kingston Centennial Committee of the International Hockey Hall of Fame and was commissioned to celebrate a century of hockey competition between RMC and Queen's.

This year's Carr-Harris Cup is being held with support from K-Rock 105.7,  Downtown Kingston, Tourism Kingston, the Original Hockey Hall of Fame and Subway. The game is the kick-off event for Feb Fest 2013.

Tickets are on sale for $5.00 per person for general admission seating and are available at the customer service desk in the ARC and K-Rock Centre box office. Queen's students may pick up their FREE tickets at the customer service desk in the ARC with a valid student card.
