No. 6 Gaels unable to stop No. 8 Gryphon's winning streak

BOX SCORE GUELPH, Ont. (January 26, 2013) – The No. 6 Queen's Gaels (16-3-2) recorded a tough 7-2 loss on the road to the No. 8 Guelph Gryphons (18-3-2) at the Gryphon Centre Arena Saturday afternoon. The Gryphons extended their win streak to 11-games with the win. 
 
Jenna Lanzarotta (Mississauga, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Gryphons at the 6:20 mark of the first period giving Guelph an early 1-0 advantage. The Gaels and Gryphons played an even period with an equal shot count of six, however Guelph was able to carry their 1-0 lead into the second period.
 
Amanda Parkins (Kitchener, Ont.) got on the board quickly in the second with a power play goal for Guelph at the 2:20 mark. Kaitlyn Mora (Guelph, Ont.) added a third goal for the Gryphons at 10:47. Emily Corbett (Toronto, Ont.) scored for Guelph at the 12:10 mark putting the Gryphons up 4-0. Averi Nooren (Alymer, Ont.) scored for the Gryphons at 14:01 increasing their lead to 5-0. Just 20 seconds later, Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) scored for the Gaels cutting the deficit to four goals; Brittany McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) and Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) had assists. At 18:14 in the second period, Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) added a second goal for the Gaels bringing the score to 5-2 to conclude the second period; Chantal Morais (Guelph, Ont.) and Kristin Smith (Toronto, Ont.) had assists.
 
Parkins added her second powerplay goal for the Gryphons at the 11:22 mark of the third period. Seconds later, Christine Grant (Missassauga, Ont.) scored another goal for Guelph bringing the game to its final score of 7-2.
 
Karissa Savage (Calgary, Alta.) and Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) both recorded 8 saves for the Gaels, while Stephanie Nehring (Oshawa, Ont.) stopped 21 shots for the Gryphons.
 
The Gaels return to action Sunday, January 27, as they travel to St. Catherines to take on the Brock Badgers. Faceoff is set for 4:15 p.m.
