BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 26, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels (9-10-5) were unable to stop the Nipissing Lakers (13-9-2) offence in a 4-2 loss at the Kingston Memorial Centre Saturday night.
Jason Gray (Winnipeg, Man.) opened the game's scoring for the Lakers with an unassisted goal off the faceoff at the 7:00 mark. The Lakers outshot the Gaels 16-12 in the first period. The Lakers started the second period with a quick goal by Dorian Peca (Oakville, Ont.) putting Nipissing up 2-0. Just seconds later,
Jordan Mirwaldt (Winnipeg, Man.) scored for the Gaels with assists from
Kelly Jackson (Scarborough, Ont.) and
Yannick Laflamme (Thetford Mines, Que.). The remainder of the period was action packed with Vern Cooper (Waswanipi, Que.) adding a third goal for the Lakers in the final seconds of the period making the score 3-1.
Tyler Moore (Winnipeg, Man.) opened the scoring in the third period with a power-play goal for the Gaels at the 7:51 mark;
Patrick McEachen (Stouffville, Ont.) and
Stephane Chabot (Rockland, Ont.) had assists. Minutes later, Andrew Marcoux (Hamilton, Ont.) added a fourth goal for Nipissing bringing the game to its final score of 4-2.
Riley Whitlock (Calgary, Alta.) had 34 saves for the Gaels, while Daniel Spence (Langley, B.C.) stopped 30 shots for the Lakers. The Gaels were 1-4 on the man-advantage, while the Lakers were 0-3.
The Gaels return to action Thursday, January 31, as they take part in the Carr-Harris Cup against the RMC Paladins at the K-Rock Centre. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
