Toronto (January 25, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels (6-9) fell to the Ryerson Rams (5-9) 66-47 on Friday night in Toronto.
Sydney Kernahan (Calgary) and
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels putting up 11 points each, while
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) delivered a team high of nine rebounds. Kelsey Wright (Brampton, Ont.) and Silvana Jez (Kitchener, Ont.) were the Rams driving forces putting up 17 points each, contributing to more than half of the Ryerson's final score.
The Rams came out strong in the first quarter putting up 19 points to the Gaels 13. The Rams maintained their momentum through the second quarter, increasing the point difference between the Gaels. The second half saw the Gaels fighting their way back into the game as Queen's managed to hold the Rams scoring at bay in the third quarter with 11 points to the Rams 15.
The Gaels finished the game strong putting up 14 point to the Rams 15, ending the game at a score of 66-47. Though the Gaels fought hard throughout the game the Rams strong shooting was the difference. Ryerson shot 35.3% from behind the arc, making 6 out of 17 of their three point shots, and made 80% of their free throws.
The Gaels strengths lay in their rebounding ability with 42 rebounds to the Rams 25. The Gaels turnovers proved to be a key factor in tonight's loss with the Rams scoring 17 of their points off the Gaels 23 turnovers.
The Gaels face off against the University of Toronto tomorrow night at 6 p.m. in Toronto.
