Gaels fall 3-1 to No. 9 Ravens in men's hockey

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 15, 2013) – Riley Whitlock (Calgary, Alta.) had 39 saves for the Queen's Gaels (7-8-4) in a 3-1 loss to the No. 9 Carleton Ravens (14-5-2) at the Kingston Memorial Centre Tuesday night.
 
The Ravens took an early 1-0 lead with a goal scored by Michael Lomas (Burlington, Ont.) at the 4:56 mark of the first period. Despite an evenly paced period, the Gaels were unable to even the score.
 
Queen's took control offensively for most of the second period, however Jeff Hayes (Ottawa) was able to add a second goal for Carleton at the 13:38 mark giving the Ravens a 2-0 lead. The Gaels outshot the Ravens 16-6 in the second period.
 
Carleton opened the scoring in the third period with a goal scored by Joey Manley (Ottawa) at the 2:37 mark bringing the score to 3-0. Jordan Soquila (Maple Ridge, B.C.) scored for the Gaels at 11:32 in the third period; Jordan Mirwaldt (Winnipeg) and Patrick McEachen (Stouffville, Ont.) had the assists. Despite a strong effort late in the third period, the Gaels were unable to recover from the Ravens early lead leaving the score at 3-1 at the game's conclusion.
 
Matthew Dopud (Pointe-Claire, Que.) had 28 saves for the Ravens. The Gaels were 1-3 on the power play and the Ravens were 0-4.
 
The Gaels return to action Friday, January 18, as they travel to North Bay to take on the Nipissing Lakers (10-9-2). Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
