McHaffie sisters power No. 5 Gaels to 5-2 win over Lions

BOX SCORE TORONTO (January 12, 2013) - A dominant third period led the No. 5 Queen's Gaels (16-2-1) to a 5-2 win over the York Lions (4-11-2) in women's hockey Saturday afternoon.

Chloe Milano (Maple, Ont.) opened the scoring for York with a goal at the 7:47 mark of the first period. The remainder of the period was scoreless allowing the Lions to carry their 1-0 lead into the second period.

Allie Biglieri (Toronto) evened the score with a goal for the Gaels at the 4:58 mark of the second period. York was able to regain the lead with a powerplay goal at 9:34 scored by Kristen Barbara (Mount Hope, Ont.). Kristin Smith (Toronto) scored a powerplay goal at 14:48 bringing the score to 2-2 to end the second period.

Brittany McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) opened the scoring in the third period with a goal at the 4:18 mark. Minutes later Brittany added a powerplay goal at 9:09 to increase the Gaels' lead. Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) scored an unassisted goal at the 13:28 mark bringing the game to its final score of 5-2.

Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) had 17 saves for the Gaels in the win and Megan Lee stopped 27 shots for the Lions.

The Gaels return to action Saturday, January 19, as they host the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
