BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 10, 2013) – The Queen's Gaels (8-3) men's basketball team cruised past the York Lions (4-7), after posting a thirteen point deferential in the first quarter. Rookie guard Roshane Roberts (Vaughn, Ont.) was the team leader in points, posting a season high 23. The Gaels are 2-1 since the New Year, and 8-3 in OUA play, currently sit fourth place in a very strong OUA East conference.

Queen's wasted no time putting points on the board, and got ahead of York early in the game. After going up 31-18 after one, the Gaels continued their dominance at both ends of the court—recording 10 steals, and a 43% shooting percentage from the field at half. Kingston native Greg Faulkner was impressive for the Gaels in the first half shooting 60% from beyond the arc, and nabbing six rebounds.

The second half featured more even play, with both teams exchanging baskets. The Queen's bench saw increased minutes with rookie guard Cy Samuels (Vaughn, Ont.) contributing six points and a game high four assists. Halfway through the third quarter the Gaels held their largest lead of the game at 27 points, managing to close out the quarter leading 70-48.

In the final frame, York was able to keep the Gaels scoring at bay, and finished the quarter out-scoring the Gaels 24-22. Queen's dominance throughout the game, allowed them to build an insurmountable lead rather early that York could not climb back from.

The Queen's Gaels men's basketball team looks to continue tallying victories, as they host the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 8pm in the ARC Main Gym.
