KINGSTON, Ont. - Two early first half goals gave the Gaels (7-1-2) a 2-1 win over their neighbours Royal Military College (3-7-0) in OUA women's soccer action at RMC on Saturday afternoon.
The Gaels wasted no time beginning their attack.
Breanna Burton of Ottawa, Ont. scored at the two minute mark from a cross from Laura Callendar of Nepean, Ont., putting the Gaels in front early.
Jackie Tessier of Winnipeg, Man. continued her strong performance as she put away a scramble past RMC goalkeeper Oliva Clarke in the 16
th minute to put the Gaels up 2-0 over their neighbours going into the second half.
Despite a resilient defensive effort and controlling the game in the second half, the Gaels let in an unfortunate goal in the 88
th minute as they lost possession of the ball in their defensive third and RMC capitalized. Striker Emma Perry of Paris, Ont. picked up the ball outside the eighteen and dribbled it in, cutting the lead to 2-1, but it was too little too late.
Gaels goalkeeper
Madison Tyrell of White Rock, B.C. made a key save in the second half as she leaped in the air to prevent a goal in the 2-1 win.
The Gaels are back in action Sunday afternoon as they host No. 4 Montreal (7-1-0) in a friendly match. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at West Campus Field.
