KINGSTON, Ont. – A pair of goals by
Breanna Burton led the Queen's Gaels to a 4-1 win over the Laurentian Lady Vees in OUA women's soccer action at the West Campus Field, Saturday.
The Gaels got off to a flying start, as
Jackie Tessier fired a shot off the crossbar minutes into the game. After that early attempt, Burton found the net in the sixth minute, putting Queen's up 1-0. Burton scored again in the 15th minute to double the Gaels' lead. Julie Lopez replied for the Lady Vees in the 27th minute, giving the Gaels a 2-1 halftime lead.
The Gaels' run continued in the second half, as
Brittany Almeida scored in the 53rd minute, off a Laurentian defender. Tessier closed out the scoring in the 71st minute. The Gaels played with great communication and aggressive offense, notably along the right side of the field. Striker Jenn Siu set up several plays and assisted Tessier's game-ending marker.
Madison Tyrell made six saves for the Gaels to pick up the win in goal, while Richele Greenwood made six saves in a losing cause for the Lady Vees. Amy-Lynn Pitton was named Laurentian's team MVP for her defending efforts that kept the game close in the first half.
The Gaels (5-1-2) return to action on Wednesday afternoon, as they visit the Carleton Ravens. Kickoff in Ottawa is set for 4 p.m.
