KINGSTON, Ont. - The No. 6 Queen's Gaels defeated the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday afternoon, 8-1, in a one-sided, rain-soaked OUA women's soccer match on West Campus Field.
Jackie Tessier of Winnipeg set the tone for the Gaels in the seventh minute, as she tapped in her first goal of the match, assisted by Breanne Burton of Ottawa. Her second goal came in the 30th minute as she shot a bullet past Kelly Van Boxmeer, the Nipissing goalkeeper from Collingwood, Ont. The Gaels entered half with a 2-1 lead over the Lakers.
Queen's took control and dominated the second half.
Jessie De Boer of North Vancouver, B.C. opened the scoring in the 50th minute and added another in the 61st minute. Three minutes later, Tessier put in another to complete her hat trick. The Gaels did not let up, as
Breanna Burton scored a pair, in the 66th and 81st minutes.
Kayla Crnic of Milton Ont. slid one past the goalkeeper with a couple minutes remaining to close out the scoring.
Sabrina Carew of Thunder Bay, Ont. gave another strong performance for the Gaels in net, making two saves to pick up the win..
Braelyn MacMaster of Alexandria scored the lone goal for the Lakers, a first-half marker.
The win brings the Gaels' regular-season record to 4-1-2. The Gaels are back in action on Sunday afternoon, taking on the Laurentien Lady Vees at 12 noon at West Campus Field.
