KINGSTON, Ont. – The Queen's Gaels women's hockey team shut out the Guelph Gryphons in a 3-0 win at the Invista Centre to open up the Queen's Gaels 2012 Triangular Series, Friday.
Mary Coughlin (Amherstberg, Ont.),
Katie Duncan (Waterloo, Ont.), and
Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) all scored for the Gaels.
All the scoring took place in the second period, as Coughlin opened festivities at 1:57. Duncan added and insurance marker at 10:35, with McHaffie rounding out the period at the 16:09 mark. McHaffie finished with a goal and an assist for the Gaels, who move to 2-0 overall on the year.
The Gryphons goaltender, Brooke Siddall (Windsor, Ont.) had 24 saves. Queen's goaltender
Karissa Savage (Calgary, Alta.) stopped 7 shots and
Mel Dodd-Moher (Ottawa, Ont.) added 14 saves. Savage started the game and was replaced by Dodd-Moher midway through the second period.
The triangular series continues tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 22, as the Guelph Gryphons face the McGill Martlets at 3:30 p.m. The Queen's Gaels return to action on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m. against the Martlets. All games will be held at the Invista Centre on Gardiners Road.
