VARSITY CLUBS THIS WEEK:
BASEBALL: After a loss to perennial powers Brock, Baseball opened the season at the league tournament in Milton. Both games on Saturday (against Laurier and Western) were rained out. On Sunday, the Gaels fell 12-1 to Guelph and 3-1 to Waterloo. LHP Jeremy Macdonald threw six scoreless innings and struck out six against the Warriors. Aaron Short drove in the Gaels' only run in a seventh-inning rally that fell short, with the Gaels leaving the bases loaded.
UP NEXT: The Gaels have a busy week on tap, with six games scheduled. On Wednesday they visit McMaster, followed by a trip to Laurier on Friday to make up for one of Saturday's washouts. On Saturday, the Gaels have a twinbill at Guelph, followed by a doubleheader at Waterloo on Sunday.
FASTPITCH: The Gaels opened up their season by splitting a doubleheader against York on Sunday. Queen's won the opener 7-0, and fell in the nightcap, 2-1.
UP NEXT: The Gaels host a pair of doubleheaders at Garrigan Park this weekend, with Brock in on Saturday (2 p.m.) and McMaster (12 noon) visiting on Sunday.
FIELD HOCKEY: The Gaels headed to Toronto for the York Invitational pre-season tournament. In four games, the Gaels played to ties with Saint Mary's (0-0), U of T (1-1) and the Toronto Dolphins senior team (0-0). They downed York, 1-0, on Sunday in a game that was shortened due to field availability. Click

UP NEXT: The Gaels open regular season play in Waterloo this weekend. They play Western on Saturday (1 p.m.), and Toronto on Sunday (9:30 a.m.).
LACROSSE (M): The Gaels opened the 2012 CUFLA season with a pair of games at the West Campus Field. On Saturday, the Gaels fell 12-2 to the defending Baggataway Cup champions from Bishop's. The Gaels played better in the final 20 minutes, after having received a wake-up call from the defending champions. On Sunday, Queen's suffered a close 13-10 loss to the McGill Redmen. The Gaels led 7-2 at halftime, but could not hold on to their lead.
UP NEXT: The Gaels make their annual Quebec road swing this weekend, as they visit McGill on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Bishop's on Sunday (10:30 a.m.)
LACROSSE (W): The Gaels headed to U of T Scarborough for the annual Early Bird Tournament. The Gaels had a strong outing, picking up wins in shortened games over Brock, Laurier II, York and Toronto while losing to Western.
UP NEXT: The Gaels head to Western for the first tournament of the year. They are set to play Wilfrid Laurier (11:30 a.m.) and the host Mustangs (4:45 p.m.) on Saturday, and UOIT (9:45 a.m.) on Sunday.
SAILING: Poor wind conditions caused the cancellation of the Laser North event in King's Point, N.Y. this weekend.
UP NEXT: The Gaels have a pair of events set for this weekend, as they are at the Student Yachting World Cup qualifier/Canadian University Keelboat Championship in Halifax, and at the Nevins Trophy in King's Point, N.Y. Both events are set for Saturday.
