Late push not enough for Gaels

| By:
BOX SCORE TORONTO (February 17, 2012) - The Queen's Gaels (2-19) could not best the York University Lions (4-17) this Friday evening in Toronto. The final score was 89-82. With the loss the Gaels are now officially eliminated from playoff contention and the Lions clinched the final spot.

The Gaels started out the game slow as in the first seven minutes of play, the Gaels found themselves stunned and in a 25-2 hole. The team finished with 10 points in the quarter, but were still down by 19.

The rest of the game was an uphill climb for Queen's but they did manage to make a game of it. In the second quarter they made a lot of progress, scoring 27 points, and closing the gap to only six points. The Gaels made a final push in the fourth quarter of play but it was not enough. They could not close the gap past seven points.

The Gaels offense was led by Mackenzie Simpson of Ottawa who had a season-high 25 in the game. Ryan Golden of Barrie, Ont. added 15.

The Gaels are back in action tomorrow evening as they travel to Sudbury to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs in the Ben Avery gym. Tipoff is set for 8:00pm.
