As the Gaels gear up for their OUA playoff opener against the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, we get ready for the CIS Men's Volleyball Championships which will be hosted at the ARC from March 2-4, 2012.
KINGSTON, Ont. (February 17, 2012) - The Gaels kick off their playoff campaign against the Guelph Gryphons (9-9) as they begin their official road to the CIS Championships with their OUA Quarter-final game. A win for the Gaels would not only earn them a berth into the OUA Final Four, but give them revenge for a tough season series against the Gryphons.
The Gaels wrapped up their regular season with a six game winning streak and a five game streak of straight set victories. From a January 15 win against York, the Gaels have not dropped a set to an opponent. Most recently, they swept the nationally ranked Western Mustangs before beating the Windsor Lancers in three sets to round out their schedule. Both teams had beaten an injury riddled Gaels lineup earlier in the season.
The Gryphons visit Kingston having lost four of their last five games during the regular season. The are led by Winston Rosser of Whitby, Ont., who leads the team in kills with 202 and is second on the squad in digs with 87.
The Gryphons swept the season series with the Gaels, including an intense five set match at the ARC to kick off the 2012 schedule. Queen's will be looking for some revenge in this rematch of the 2010 OUA Men's Volleyball Championship.
The Queen's Gaels host the 2012 CIS men's volleyball championships this March 2-4. For more information please visit the CIS Championship website.
