KINGSTON, Ont. (February 17, 2012) – The Queen's Gaels (0-2) men's hockey season came to a close on Friday night in Kingston as they dropped a 5-1 decision to the visiting No. 2 McGill Redmen (2-0).

Queen's goaltender Riley Whitlock of Calgary got the start for the Gaels making 38 saves while Hubert Morin of St. Georges de Beauce, Que. started in net for the Redmen stopping 34. McGill was led by Max Langelier-Parent of Lery, Que. who had one goal and two assists in the win.

After losing 3-2 in Montreal on Wednesday, Queen's needed a win over McGill to force a third and deciding game but it was not meant to be.

The Redmen were the first to score with a goal coming from Christophe Longpre-Poirier of Longueuil, Que., his second of the playoffs, at the 5:11 mark of the opening period. Later in the period, just after the Gaels managed to kill off a Redmen powerplay, McGill was able to make it a two-goal lead. Nicolas Biniek of Montreal took his own rebound in front of Whitlock and tucked it past the goalie on the second effort.

The Redmen continued to keep the pressure coming late in the frame. The Gaels were unable to clear their own zone and McGill's Guillaume Langelier-Parent of Lery, Que. took advantage of a loose puck in front of the Queen's goal and scored the third Redmen goal of the game.

After tallying once more in the second period The Redmen took a 4-0 advantage into the final frame. Queen's managed to break up the shutout on a wrister from Jordan Soquila of Maple Ridge, B.C. in the third but McGill hung on finishing with a 5-1 win.

ICE CHIPS: The Gaels faced 43 shots on goal which is the third most faced in a game all season… The game saw four 10-minute misconducts, three from Queen's and one from McGill… McGill won all four contests including playoff games against Queen's this season… The game marked the fifth and final season for Gaels captain Jon Lawrance.
