BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (February 11, 2012) - The No. 1 Carleton Ravens (20-0) handled the Queen's Gaels (2-18) this Saturday evening in Kingston. The final score of the game was 80-47.
The Gaels had a difficult time stopping the Ravens from scoring giving up 18, 25, and 25 in the first three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, the Gaels outscored the Ravens 23-12, but it was not enough to get back in the game.
The Gaels played an excellent rebounding game, matching Carleton with 39 boards apiece, but a low shooting percentage and 23 turnovers on the night told the story for the Gaels. Michael Fairine of Toronto led the Geals with 14 points.
This evenings game was played in memory of Marco William Alessio, a Gaels basketball player from 1987-1989. He was tragically killed on February 23, 2009 at the age of 43 during a time of political upheaval in Madagascar, where he had taken up a teaching position. Family and teammates gather to pay tribute to a dear friend. A scholarship has been established in Mark's honor, granted anually to a member of the team based on athletic and academic excellence. This year's recepient is fourth year forward Bernard Bugesson of Port Hawkesbury, N.S. Bergesson contributed two points and gathered four rebounds in tonight's game.
The Gaels are back in action next Friday evening versus the York University Lions at 8pm in Toronto.
