Gaels fall 3-2 to Mustangs in women's hockey

BOX SCORE LONDON, Ont. – Karissa Savage (Calgary, Alta.) had 23 saves for the Queen's Gaels in a 3-2 loss to the Western Mustangs in OUA women's hockey action Sunday.
 
The Gaels dominated the first period offensively outshooting the Mustangs 13-5, however neither team was able to score. The Mustangs opened the scoring at the 4:21 mark of the second period with a power play goal by Jessica Ross (Mount Brydges, Ont.). Kristin Smith (Toronto, Ont.) evened the score with an unassisted goal at the 5:54 mark of the second. However, Stacey Scott (London, Ont.) added a power play goal for the Mustangs at 12:01 giving Western a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
 
Kryshandra Green (Caledon, Ont.) added a shorthanded goal for the Mustangs at the 2:36 mark of the third period putting Western up 3-1. Danielle Girard (Sarnia, Ont.) scored for the Gaels with an assist from Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) at 6:12 putting Queen's within one goal of Western. The remainder of the period was evenly balanced but scoreless, leading Western to a 3-2 win.
 
Kelly Campbell (St. Thomas, Ont.) had 36 saves for the Mustangs. Queen's was 0-6 on the power play, while Western was 2-5. The Gaels outshot Western 38-26.

With the loss, the Gaels are now 14-2-1 while the Mustangs move to 12-3-1. 
 
The Gaels return to action in the new year as they participate in the Theresa Humes Tournament, hosted by the Concordia Stingers, from January 3-5. They return home to host UOIT on Friday, January 11, at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
