Gaels top Lancers 4-3 in women's hockey

BOX SCORE WINDSOR, Ont. – Courtenay Jacklin (Regina, Sask.) had a hat trick to lead the Queen's Gaels to a 4-3 win over the Windsor Lancers at Tecumseh Arena on Saturday. The rookie forward had a goal in each period to lead the Gaels to the win in the opening game of their two-day southwestern Ontario road swing.
 
The Warriors opened the scoring with a power play goal at the 11:57 mark of the first period by Candace Kourounis. Jacklin evened the scoring with a goal for the Gaels at 15:25; Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) and Danielle Girard (Sarnia, Ont.) had assists.
 
The balanced attack continued into the beginning of the second period. Jacklin added a power play goal for the Gaels at the 9:40 mark in the second period; Kristen Smith (Toronto, Ont.) and Chelsey Verbeek (Beiseker, Alta.) had assists. Windsor evened the score with a goal by Kourounis at 11:24.
 
Windsor opened the scoring in the third period with a power play goal at the 3:10 mark of the third period scored by Alyssa Baldin. Chantal Morais (Guelph) added a power play goal for the Gaels at the 5:06 mark. Jacklin added her third goal of the game with a power play goal at 13:43 putting the Gaels up 4-3. The Lancers put up a number of shots in the remainder of the period, but were unable to score.
 
Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) had 30 saves for the Gaels and Karlyle Robinson stopped 30 shots for Windsor. Queen's is now 14-1-1 on the year, while Windsor falls to 9-6-2.
 
The Gaels return to action Sunday, December 2, as they take on the Western Mustangs in London. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m.
