Queen's beats Windsor 5-2 in women's hockey

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. – The Queen's Gaels had five different goal scorers as they picked up a 5-2 win over the Windsor Lancers at the Memorial Centre, Saturday afternoon.
 
The Gaels started with a quick lead with a goal by Chelsey Verbeek (Beiseker, Ont.) assisted by Alisha Sealey (Elora, Ont.) and Kristin Smith (Toronto, Ont.) at 1:50. Queen's continued to take charge offensively and Brittany McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) scored a power play goal at 12:46 with assists from Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) and Mary Coughlin (Amherstberg, Ont.). Just 24 seconds later, Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) added a third goal for the Gaels with assists from Courtenay Jacklin (Regina, Sask.) and Shawna Griffin (Calgary, Alta.). The Gaels outshot the Lancers 14-8 in the first period.
 
Morgan McHaffie added another goal for the Gaels at 15:55 in the second period with assists by her sister Brittany and Coughlin. Queen's increased their lead to 5-0 with a goal by Jacklin at 17:35 with assists by Griffin and Pilon. Alyssa Baldin (Windsor, Ont.) added a power play goal for the Lancers at 18:06 leaving the score 5-1 to conclude the second period.
 
In an evenly paced third period, the Lancers penetrated the Gaels defense for a late third period goal scored at 18:28 by Candance Kourounis (Markham, Ont.) bringing the game to its final score of 5-2.
 
Mel Dodd-Maher (Ottawa, Ont.) had 21 saves for the Gaels. Karlyle Robinson (St. Catharines, Ont.) stopped 13 shots for the Lancers and Kassandra Paone (Port Colbourne, Ont.) added 20 saves.
 
The Gaels are now 8-0-1 in the regular season and the Lancers move to 6-3-0.

The Gaels return to action Sunday, November 4, as they host the Western Mustangs. Faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
