KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team fell just short of a win Friday night after being defeated by the Brock Badgers 53-49 in the Bob Davis Gymnasium in St. Catharines.
The Badgers had the edge in the first quarter of the game, leading 16-9 after ten minutes. By half time, both teams kept it close with a 25-20 tight score in Brock's favour. The Gaels took the lead in the third quarter and put pressure on the undefeated Badgers, but by the fourth period, Brock's Kayla Santilli added six points to help the Badgers win 53-49, and upkeep their undefeated standing.
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) scored 13 points to lead the Gaels, and she was the only Queen's player in double figures. Hanna Koposhynska (Toronto, Ont.) contributed 8 rebounds, while Sydney Kernaghan (Calgary, Ont.) and Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) made 6 rebounds each.
Nicole Rosenkranz led the Badgers with ten points.
The Gaels outrebounded Brock 33-24, but committed 19 turnovers to the Badgers' 15.
The Queen's Gaels are now 2-3 in the OUA, while Brock remains undefeated with a 5-0 record. The Gaels are next in action against the McMaster Marauders (1-3) on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Hamilton.
