BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. – Erica McFadden scored 22 points to lead the Guelph Gryphons to a 71-62 victory over the Queen's Gaels in OUA women's basketball action in Guelph, Saturday. She went 8-for-12 from the field, including five three-pointers, as the Gryphons came from behind to defeat the Gaels.
Queen's started the game strong leading the first taking an early lead in the first half, scoring 19 points to Guelph's 13 in the first quarter. The Gaels continued to lead through most of the remainder of the half, and led 32-28 at halftime. Guelph pulled even in the third quarter, and the teams were tied 48-48 with ten minutes left. However, the fourth quarter belonged to the rested Gryphons, who outscored Queen's 23-14 in the final frame.
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels with 14 points, while
Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) added 11 and
Sydney Kernahan (Calgary, Alta.) scored ten. For Guelph, in addition to McFadden's 22, Kate MacTavish had a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Kayla Goodhoofd scored ten points.
Queen's shot 42.9 % from the field and was 30% shooting beyond the arc in the first half—Guelph had a 27% from the field and 37.5 % in three point shooting.
The Gaels, who fall to 2-2 in OUA play, continue their regular season next Friday at Brock, tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in St. Catharines.
