Faulkner’s 22 leads Gaels to upset over No. 7 Lakehead in men's basketball

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. – A 22-point performance by Greg Faulkner (Kingston, Ont.) led the Queen's Gaels to a 96-87 upset of the No. 7-ranked Lakehead Thunderwolves in OUA men's basketball action in Thunder Bay, Friday. The Holy Cross graduate went 7-for-16 from the field, and also added a team-high eight rebounds, as the Gaels picked up their first win over Lakehead since 2007, and their first win in Thunder Bay since 2006.
 
Four other Gaels were in double figures, as Roshane Roberts (Toronto, Ont.) scored 17, James Asefa (Toronto, Ont.) scored 15, Nikola Misljencevic (Ottawa, Ont.) added 14 and Mark Paclibar (Minesing, Ont.) chipped in with 13.
 
Lakehead was led by Yoosrie Salhia, who scored 18 points, while Ben Johnson netted 17 and Joe Hart had 15.
 
Lakehead led 22-17 after the first quarter, but the Gaels come out strong in the second period and took a 45-35 halftime lead. Queen's extended their lead to 11 after three quarters, 70-59, and cruised to the victory.
 
The Gaels shot 41% from three-point range (10-for-24), while Lakehead was 8-for-28 from long distance. Overall, the Gaels shot 41% from the field, while Lakehead shot 42%. The Gaels went 32-for-44 from the free-throw line, while Lakehead was 17-for-27. The Thunderwolves outrebounded Queen's 43-34.
 
With the win, the Gaels move to 3-0 on the season, and are one of only two unbeaten teams left in the OUA (Ryerson is the other).
 
The Gaels will play the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday in Guelph. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
