BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. – The Queen's Gaels came away with a road victory, winning 67-63 against Lakehead after
Robyn Pearson of Toronto hit a buzzer-beater at the end of regulation to force overtime. Pearson drained a 15-foot shot against pressure with the Gaels trailing 59-57 to send the game to an extra session, the highlight of her double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) performance.
The Gaels led through the majority of the contest, including 15-8 after the first quarter and 32-20 at halftime. Lakehead crept back in the third quarter and trailed 47-38 with ten minutes to play. Lakehead took the lead for the first time late in the game, at 54-53, with approximately four minutes to go.
Gemma Bullard of Guelph, Ont. had 16 points to lead Queen's, while
Jenny Wright of Kingston, Ont.,
Liz Boag of Kingston, Ont., and Pearson each put 12 points on the board for the Gaels. Pearson's 11 boards was a game high, and the Gaels outrebounded Lakehead 42-29.
The Thunderwolves were led by Ayse Kalkan, who had 18 points, while Kelsey Bardsley had 14.
The Gaels (2-1 OUA) continue their OUA season at 6 p.m. Saturday at Guelph as they take on the Gryphons.
