Gaels top Warriors 4-0 in women's hockey

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. - A balanced attack and a stifling defence led the No. 5-ranked Queen's Gaels to a 4-0 shutout of the Waterloo Warriors in OUA women's hockey at the Memorial Centre, Friday night. The Gaels outshot Waterloo 31-11, as they cruised to the shutout, their fourth of the regular season.

The Gaels had a strong offensive start opening the scoring at 11:35 with a 5-on-3 power play goal scored by Shawna Griffin (Calgary, Alta.) and assisted by Alisha Sealey (Elora, Ont.) and Mary Coughlin (Amherstburg, Ont.). Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) added her eighth goal of the season at the 16:02 mark of the first period putting the Gaels up 2-0; Courtenay Jacklin (Regina, Sask.) and Griffin had assists.

The Gaels carried their 2-0 lead into the second period. Queen's continued to dominate offensively and Brittany McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) added a power play goal at 19:03 to increase the Gaels' lead to 3-0; Katie Duncan (Waterloo, Ont.) and Chantal Morais (Guelph, Ont.) had assists.

In the third frame, Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) added a goal for the Gaels at the 3:03 mark with an assist from Duncan bringing the game to its final score of 4-0.

Karissa Savage (Calgary, Alta.) got the shutout and had 11 saves for the Gaels while Jamie Grove (Kelowna, B.C.) stopped 27 shots for the Warriors. The Gaels are now 11-1-1 and the Warriors move to 3-7-2.

The Gaels return to action Friday, November 23, as they host the Toronto Varsity Blues at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
