Gaels fall 1-0 to Varsity Blues in season opener

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. – In the Gaels regular-season opener, Kelly O'Hanion (Markham, Ont.) scored the game's only goal in a shootout leading Toronto to a 1-0 win over Queen's on Saturday at Varsity Arena in Toronto.
 
The Gaels are now 0-0-1 to start their season.
 
Despite a predominantly offensive game from the Gaels, they were unable to score in regulation, forcing overtime.  Both teams had three shots on goal in overtime, but the game remained scoreless. In the shootout, O'Hanion scored the first and only goal.
 
Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) had 18 saves for Queen's, while Toronto's Nicole Kesteris (Aurora, Ont.) earned the shutout with 47 saves.
 
Toronto earns their first win of the season moving to 1-0-1.
 
The Gaels return to action on Sunday, October 7, as they face the Ryerson Rams at 2 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
