KINGSTON, Ont. - Three tries by
Kayla Roote led the Queen's Gaels to a 72-11 victory over the York Lions in OUA women's rugby action at Nixon Field, Friday. The third-year Number 8 scored tries after scrums deep in the Lions end in the 10th, 30th and 33th minutes, as the Gaels cruised to their seventh straight regular-season win, dating back to 2011. Queen's led 38-3 at halftime.
Jordyn Rowntree and
Taylor White each scored a pair of tries for the Gaels, while
Sarah Pathak,
Miranda Seifert,
Marin MacLeod and
Nadia Popov each scored one try. Popov also added a pair of conversions, to finish with nine points. Four conversions by
Bronwyn Corrigan rounded out the Queen's scoring.
Zoe Smith scored the Lions' only try, while Alexis Boltsis kicked a pair of penalty goals.
The Gaels (6-0-0, 30 pts.) will host an OUA Quarter-final game on Saturday, October 13, against the Trent Excalibur, who finished fourth in the OUA Russell Division. Kickoff at Nixon Field is set for 1 p.m.
