Varsity Clubs update - October 29, 2012

SAILING: This past weekend the Queen's Sailing Team competed in two events. At the Fleet Racing Nationals at McGill in Montreal, Queen's finished 3rd behind McGill and Dalhousie out of 8 Canadian universities. In New Jersey at Ocean County College, Queen's sent four sailors to compete in the Henry Luce regatta. Queen's finished 5th out of 8 schools. Racing was completed in one day and teams were then sent home as New Jersey prepared for Hurricane Sandy. Full Resultshttp://scores.collegesailing.org/f12/henry-luse/ 

SQUASH: This past weekend the Queen's Women's squash team traveled to Toronto to participate in the Black Knight Invitational tournament. In the first round, the team played McMaster and won at a score of 5-3 with wins from player-coach Erin Roberts, Captain Emily Peebles and rookies Stefa Korda, Laura Coutts, and Megan Richmond. In the final, Queen's faced the University of Toronto, and after some tough fought matches, fell at a score of 3-5 with wins from Erin Roberts, Megan Richmond and Alex Sitnik. The tournament was an excellent learning experience for the team, consisting of 6 rookies.
Next up: the Gaels will face St. Lawrence University in an exhibition match on November 6 at Queen's. 
 
LACROSSE (M): The Queen's Men's Lacrosse team (3rd, CUFLA East) fell to Bishop's (2nd, CUFLA East) 13-12 in a wildcard game this past Saturday at Coulter Field in Lennoxville, Que., eliminating the Gaels from the CUFLA playoffs. After being down 8-1 after two quarters of action, the Gaels fought back, scoring the next six goals to pull within one goal. After trading goals for the rest of the game, Bishop's managed to edge out Queen's, enroute to a 13-12 win to move on to Quarterfinals against Brock (3rd, CUFLA West). Matt Eriksen had a game-high eight points coming off six goals and two assists. Teammates Mitch Grant, Alex Wright, and Brendan Zoehner each finished with two points. Goalie Ale Guiney made 12 saves in the loss. The Gaels finish the season with a 4-6 overall record.
