KINGSTON, Ont.– Derek Wiggan (Toronto, Ont.) and Chris Patrician (Toronto, Ont.) of the Queen's Gaels football team have been named the OUA football Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ending October 28, 2012. The league office in Hamilton made the announcement Monday.

This is the third time this season that the Gaels have taken two of the three weekly OUA honours. The other times came on October 9 and September 17. This is the first player of the week nod this year for Wiggan, and Patrician's second honour of the season.

Wiggan, a third-year defensive lineman led a Gaels defence that completely stifled the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday. Wiggan made 4.5 tackles, three for losses as the Gaels held Laurier to only 179 total yards. Wiggan led the Gaels with two sacks.

Patrician, a fourth-year punt returner, ran a punt back 94 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of the No. 6-ranked Gaels' 34-0 win over Laurier on Saturday. The return was the second-longest punt return touchdown in school history. All told, Patrician ran back nine punts for 140 yards, on his way to a team-high 157 all-purpose yards.

The No. 6-ranked Gaels return to action on Saturday, November 3, when they visit the No. 5-ranked Guelph Gryphons in an OUA semifinal. Kickoff at Alumni Stadium in Guelph is set for 1 p.m.
