Gaels lose to Toronto on the road

BOX SCORE TORONTO – The Queen's Gaels saw their men's hockey winning streak come to a crashing halt as they fell, 8-1, to the U of T Varsity Blues at Varsity Arena in Toronto, Saturday night.
 
Toronto got a quick start as Jeff Brown (Toronto, Ont.) scored at 2:48, and a power play goal at 9:42. Kyle Ventura (Scarborough, Ont.) added another power play goal at 12:46 bringing the game to a score of 3-0 to end the first period. Toronto outshot Queen's 15-5 in the first period.
 
The Blues got another on the board at 10:02 with a goal scored by Werbowski and extended their lead to 5-0 at 18:21 with Ventura's second goal of the game. Robert Kay (Orono, Ont.) was able to score another goal in the final minute of the period to put U of T up 6-0 to end the second period. The Gaels put up many scoring chances outshooting the Blues 15-13, but were unable to capitalize.
 
The Gaels started off the third period with their first goal of the game, scored by Joseph Luongo (Concord, Ont.) and assisted by Jordan Soqula (Maple Ridge, B.C.) at 1:59. The Blues fired back with a power play goal at 3:56 scored by Ventura. Ventura scored his third goal of the game getting a hat trick at 6:01 to bring the game to its final score of 8-1.
 
Riley Whitlock (Calgary, Alta.) had 42 saves for Queen's, while Brett Willows (Rivers, Man.) stopped 28 saves for Toronto.
 
The Gaels move to 2-1 in the regular season, while Toronto remains undefeated at 3-0.
 
Queen's return to the ice Wednesday, October 24, as they play McGill in Montreal. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
