Gaels top Nipissing 6-0 to win season series in Women’s Soccer

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. - The No. 10-ranked Queen's Gaels put six balls past the host Nipissing Lakers, to notch their ninth win of the season, 6-0, and second over the Lakers in OUA women's soccer action in North Bay, Ont. on a cold Saturday afternoon.

The Gaels offence came via a balanced attack, as five different Gaels hit the scoresheet. Jessie deBoer (North Vancouver, B.C.) got the Gaels on the board 10 minutes into the game. 14 minutes later, Brittany Almeida (Elginburg, Ont.) made it a two-goal lead for the visiting team. Before the end of the first half, Breanna Burton (Ottawa, Ont.) put one in the back of the net to give the Gaels a comfortable lead going into halftime. The Gaels didn't slow down in the second half. Just six minutes into play, Almeida put away her second of the game to make it 4-0. The Gaels rounded out the scoring with two more insurance goals: one by Jackie Tessier (Winnipeg, Man.) in the 60th minute and the other by Kayla Crnic (Milton, Ont.) in the 84th minute to seal the victory.

Goalkeeper Sabrina Carew (Thunder Bay, Ont.) was solid for the Gaels in net, making 11 saves and grabbing the shutout in the win. Queen's now improve to a 9-2-2 record.

Nipissing Goalkeepers Kelley Van Boxmeer (Collingwood, Ont.) and Kelly Dunk (Guelph, Ont.) made four saves each in the loss for the home side.

The Gaels return to action on Sunday, as they continue their road trip to Sudbury, Ont. in their second and last meeting of the regular season with the Laurentian Lady Vees (8-4-1). Kickoff is set for noon.
