NORTH BAY, Ont. (January 7, 2012) – Queen's made a last ditch effort in the third period with 20 shots, but the Gaels (8-8-1) still came up short with a 7-3 loss to the Nipissing Lakers (10-5-4).
After winning yesterday's match-up between the two teams, tensions clearly boiled over today, as seven 10-minute misconducts were dished out during the game. The Gaels were 0-8 with the man advantage, whereas Nipissing tallied one in their nine opportunities.
Nipissing's Doug Clarkson of Mimico, Ont. notched a hat-trick for the Lakers, bringing his goal total up to nine on the season. Fourth year biology student,
David Chubb of St. Georges, Nfld. led the Gaels with a shorthanded goal and an assist. Other Gaels goals came from Calgary's
Scott Kenway, and Maple Ridge, B.C.'s
Jordan Soquila—both of whom scored in yesterday's game as well.
Next for Queen's come the Concordia Stingers who sit only one spot above the Gaels in the OUA standings while holding a three point cushion on the seventh spot. The Gaels next titlt with Nipissing comes when Queen's welcomes the Lakers to Kingston on January 20th.
