KINGSTON, Ont. (January 31, 2012) – On Thursday night, the Queen's Gaels men's hockey team will look to sweep the season series from the RMC Paladins as they battle in the 26th annual Carr-Harris Cup at the K-Rock Centre.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
Last season, the Gaels earned their fourth consecutive victory in the game as they defeated RMC by a score of 5-2.
Kelly Jackson of Toronto,
Jonathon Lawrance of Steinbach, Man.,
Scott Kenway of Calgary, and
Jordan Soquila of Maple Ridge, B.C., all scored for the Gaels while
Steele De Fazio of Georgetown, Ont., won his second consecutive Carr-Harris Cup start. He won the 24th Carr-Harris Cup with a shutout in a 3-0 victory for the Gaels.
Jackson was named the game MVP for Queen's after his two-goal performance while RMC forward Landon Lavictoire of Kirkland Lake, Ont., was named RMC's game MVP.
So far this year, Queen's and RMC have met on three occasions with the Gaels winning all three matchups to date. The Gaels have been strong against the Paladins all season, outscoring their Kingston rivals by an 11-4 margin in their three victories, two of which have come at RMC's home rink, Constantine Arena.
All-time, Queen's leads the historic series with a 15-8-2 record in the previous 25 games.
The Carr-Harris Cup series, originally billed as the Causeway Challenge, was inaugurated in 1986 as part of the Kingston Centennial Committee of the International Hockey Hall of Fame and was commissioned to celebrate a century of hockey competition between RMC and Queen's.
This year's Carr-Harris Cup is being held in conjunction with K-Rock 105.7, Feb Fest 2012, the International Hockey Hall of Fame and Kingston Accomodation Partners.
Among the special events at the Carr-Harris Cup this year is the Hart Trophy which will be on hand for fans to see and photograph. The trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League's Most Valuable Player and was most recently awarded to Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks.
Tickets are on sale for $5.00 per person for general admission seating and are available at the customer service desk in the ARC and K-Rock Centre box office. Queen's students may pick up their free tickets at the customer service desk in the ARC with a valid student card.
