KINGSTON, Ont. (January 18, 2012) - The Queen's Gaels (10-8-1) moved into a tie with Ryerson for the eighth and final playoff spot with a 4-1 win over the RMC Paladins (3-17-1) on Wednesday night.
The Gaels converted three power-play goals, two coming in the second frame, on their way to a 4-1 victory.
Jordan Mirwaldt of Winnipeg had two goals, including the game winner, and an assist to lead the Gaels. RMC's lone goal came from Patrick Pinder of Calgary who scored his first of the season.
After a scoreless first period, the Gaels took a one goal lead 4:59 into the second period on a goal from
David Chubb of St. George's, Nfld., his fourth of the season. The Paladins quickly responded to tie the game at one when Pinder converted just over a minute later. The Gaels power-play then went to work converting two times in the second and once more in the third for an eventual 4-1 victory. Mirwaldt and
Stephane Chabot of Rockland, Ont. added the second period power-play markers before Mirwaldt closed things out in the third on his third goal of the season.

Riley Whitlock of Calgary stopped 24 of 25 shots while picking up his ninth win of the season.
Mirwaldt now has back-to-back three point games having scored a goal and two helpers in the Gaels 9-2 win over Concordia last weekend.
Queen's has now won two straight games and four of their five games played in 2012 thus far.
The Gaels now improve to 3-0 this season against the RMC Paladins. The two teams will meet once more this season when the Gaels host the Paladins on Thursday, February 2 at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ont. for the annual Carr-Harris Challenge Cup which celebrates the two team's rivalry which dates back to 1886.
The Gaels return home this weekend as they host the Nipissing Lakers on Friday and Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday. Both games are set for 7:30pm starts.
