OTTAWA (September 7, 2011) - Jacqueline Tessier of Winnipeg picked up her 2011 season where 2010 left off by scoring two goals as the No. 1 Queen's Gaels (1-0-0) beat the Carleton Ravens (1-2-0) by a 4-0 score.
Tessier struck early and often in the first half with goals at nine and 39 minutes.
The Gaels continued to control the game early in the second half as they received goals from
Riley Filion of Alexandria, Ont. and
Kelli Chamberlain of North Bay, Ont. which put the match beyond doubt.
Chantel Marson of London, Ont. stood tall in goal for the Gaels and recorded her first shutout of the season.
Filion is back with the Gaels after a summer stint as a member of team Canada at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzen, China where the team had an all-time best fifth place finish.
Chamberlain has returned to the Gaels for her fifth season with the team. Last season she finished second in team and OUA scoring with 10 goals in 16 games.
Tessier led the OUA in goals one season ago with 18 and now sits second in the league with two goals after today's game. The OUA leader is Wilfrid Laurier's Alyssa Lagonia of Kitchener, Ont. who has scored three goals in the Golden Hawks two games. Tessier is now one goal behind Lagonia for the league lead despite only playing one game.
The Gaels will be back in action this Saturday when they take on the No. 9 Ottawa Gee-Gees (1-0-1) at Richardson Stadium.
