Gaels battle Varsity Blues to 3-3 draw

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 25 2011) – The No. 4 ranked Gaels (5-0-1) battled the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to a 3-3 tie this Sunday in Kingston. The Gaels were ahead until the final two minutes of play when the Blues notched the game at three. The tie marks the Gaels' first of the season.

The Gaels dominated the first half of the game and 27 minutes into the action, Alexis McKinty, of Burlington, Ont. put the Gaels ahead with her fourth goal of the year. Just eleven minutes later, Kelli Chamberlain of North Bay, Ont. added another goal for the Gaels. They entered the change rooms up with a commanding 2-0.

The Varsity Blues came out for the second half in full force. Mel Bowen scored two back to back goals for the Varsity Blues in the 53rd and 56th minutes of play, to even things up. Jessie De Boer, of North Vancouver, B.C. answered for the Gaels four minutes later as they regained the lead. The Gaels changed to a defensive mindset, and controlled game. Things were looking good until the Blues connected on a last second opportunity. The game ended in a 3-3 draw.

The Queen's Gaels play again Thursday at 4:15 against the Royal Military College Paladins.
